Dental Sedation Nursing Course

Places are available unless otherwise stated. There is no need to telephone to ask whether places are available.

A short course leading to The Certificate in Dental Sedation Nursing awarded by the NEBDN. It is taught to the syllabus of the NEBDN. Students do NOT have to work in a practice which undertakes regular sedations as they cann acquire practical experience from sister practices which do undertake sedations.

With conscious sedations [Oral, RA, IV] the GDC’s rules are clearly stated: there must be a “2nd appropriate person” present who can be a dentist, doctor, or a DN with the NEBDN Dental Sedation Nursing qualification

The course prepares DNs to the standard required of the “second appropriate person” providing the practical skills & theoretical knowledge necessary to assist during routine sedations: Oral/RA/ IV.

Topics covered include medico-legal, life support, monitoring of the patient, anxiety control, anatomy, physiology and pharmacology.

8 fortnightly Wednesday evenings 7.00- 9.00:
2nd, 16th 30th Sept, 14th 28th Oct, 11th 25th Nov, 9th Dec 2009
Ranelagh School, Ranelagh Drive, Bracknell, RG12 9DA

The NEBDN Dental Sedation Examinations are on the 3rd Sat of every Mar & Sept. To take this course/exam DNs

  1. must be qualified and registered with the GDC as the NEBDN will only allow DNs registered with the GDC to sit their examination
  2. don’t have to routinely assist with sedation. If s/he doesn’t, arrangements can be made with a host practice

Reason: an NEBDN log: 25 oral/RA/IV cases must be completed [of which 5 must be RA, 5 must be IV].

After passing the examination the NEBDN awards a certificate which can be displayed at your practice.
